If everybody would walk over it to go in the water, it would destroy the reef. That’s why they have made the docks, to protect the reef and in second place so that people will not hurt themselves, because the corals are sharp like razors, fire coral can give you serious burns and poisenous animals like stone fishes, scorpion fishes, sea urchins can be found between the coral and you don’t want to step on one of those 😉
